PERSEPHONE:

"Persephone" is a prayer to Kore, Greek goddess of flowers, who was taken to the underworld, where she was united with Hades (god of the underworld). By means of her marriage to the king of the afterlife, Persephone received the secrets of Life and Death, and became Queen. She now reigns at her husband's side in the underworld for half the year, and her absence from the surface causes such grief to her mother Demeter (goddess of the harvest), that the earth becomes cold and infertile, and that is how Autumn and Winter came to be. When Persephone returns to the surface for the other half of the year, her mother Demeter rejoices, the fields become green again, the flowers bloom, causing Spring and Summer.
